Champagne Tasting with Maison Legrand

TONIGHT:  Meet Valentin Legrand from Maison Eric Legrand
The first vineyards of the family Legrand were planted in 1898 and are located in the heart of the Côte des Bar, an exclusive subdivision of the Champagne appellation, due to its unique soil and climate.

Being one of the 3 first winegrowers initiating an independent winemaker movement in 1930, producing their own Champagne instead of selling their grapes crop to the Champagne houses of Reims, this visionary family is still considered a pioneer of the Côte des Bar.

The Côte des Bar is the oldest geological region in Champagne area and dates back to the Jurassic period. The soil is predominantly Kimmeridgian clay limestone marl which has been described as « the most famous and important type of soil on earth when it comes to fine wines ».
Plot vinifications are performed over 27 plots well-spread in the Cote des Bars with multitude of micro-climates. The grapes attain *excellent maturity with low yields. Finally, the overall conditions tend to give a better grapes maturity & concentration here than further north.
