Château du Nozay, located in Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois, is a biodynamic Sancerre estate founded in the 1970s and now run by second-generation winemaker Cyril de Benoist. The 16.8 ha vineyard surrounds the 17th-century château on compact slopes divided into five to six parcels across two terroirs: terres blanches (clay-limestone) for structured, mineral wines, and caillottes (stony limestone) for crisp, fruity styles. Yields average 55 hl/ha, lower than typical Sancerre. Cyril employs avant-garde methods like protéodie—playing music to vines and fermenting musts—to stimulate natural processes. Certified organic and biodynamic, the domaine balances precision and innovation, crafting terroir-driven Sauvignon Blancs that reflect both nature’s rhythm and Nozay’s singular soils.
