Château Tourril, led by Stéphane Kandler since 2014, is a 12-hectare organic estate in Minervois, Languedoc, set on ancient Roman ruins. The remote location features rocky limestone soils and a unique microclimate between 60–100 meters altitude, fostering resilient vines—Carignan roots reach 11 meters deep. Since 2016, over 50% of plots have been replanted, focusing on younger, more approachable wines. The estate achieved organic certification in 2020. Stéphane emphasizes simplicity with low-intervention winemaking and low-alcohol cuvées (as low as 11% ABV). Reds like Cuvée Philippe are made for easy drinking and never older than 2021. Experimentation with blends and cuvées continues, all while maintaining affordability and terroir expression.
